ClearHalal

Privacy Policy

Effective October 28, 2026

ClearHalal ("we", "us") is operated by Said Shah. This policy explains what the ClearHalal app and website collect, why, and the choices you have. We built ClearHalal to collect as little as possible: there are no ads, no tracking, no analytics tools, and we never sell your data.

What we collect

Your account. When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive a unique user ID and your email address. With Google we also receive your name and a link to your profile photo; we use your first name only to greet you in the app. If you choose Apple's "Hide My Email", we receive a private relay address instead of your real email.

Your preferences. Your halal setting (Zabiha or Non-Zabiha) and whether to check for vegetarian and vegan products.

Messages to Zain. When you chat with Zain, we store your questions and Zain's replies so you can see your conversation. You can clear it at any time in the app. Separately, we keep a log of each message, how our safety checks classified it, and the reply, so we can investigate misuse and improve the accuracy of answers. This log is linked to your user ID, is visible only to ClearHalal administrators, and is deleted automatically after 180 days.

Products you scan. When you scan a barcode, we look up the product and analyze its ingredients. Scanned products appear in the app's public "recently scanned" feed and in our records of ingredients awaiting manufacturer verification. These records contain product information only and are never linked to you.

Problem reports. If you report a problem with a scan result, we store the reason you chose, any comment you write, and your user ID, so we can review the product and prevent abuse. Reports are visible only to ClearHalal administrators.

Location. If you allow location access:

Usage limits. To prevent abuse, we count how many scans, restaurant searches, and Zain messages each account makes per day. These counters are deleted automatically after 7 days.

Technical data. Our hosting provider processes technical information such as IP addresses and request times in server logs for security and reliability, and keeps it for a limited period.

Who processes your data

We do not share your data with anyone else, and we do not use it for advertising.

Keeping and deleting your data

You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings → Delete account, or by following the steps on our account deletion page. Deleting your account permanently removes your account, preferences, Zain conversation, and problem reports, and signs you out of Google or Apple for ClearHalal. Zain safety log entries are deleted within 180 days of being created. Anonymous product records are not linked to you and are kept.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to object to how we use it. Contact us at support@clearhalalapp.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

ClearHalal is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
